Pub 68: The Horse Shoe Bar
I think if a photo could sum up the horseshoe, then it's probably this one.
On the left, my well-meaning but somewhat alcoholic gen-Z pals; on the right, an extremely loud, yet still pleasant, american tourist; and in the centre, a pensioner who looks old enough to probably remember eating rationed spam in this very pub.
It honestly seems to cater to every group, but absolutely, without doubt, the ultimate king of the horseshoe is the steaming maw. I'm not sure there's anywhere else that you're as likely to see inappropriate touching, very large measures of chardonnay, or karaoke adele being taken more seriously.
Still, it's a good bev, a huge bar, always mobbed, and if you can dodge the Deirdre's then you'll do just fine.
