Pub 109: State Bar
You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and, similarly, you shouldn't judge a pub by it's doormen. Usually, approaching an old geezer pub on a side street off sauchiehall and seeing a pair of cross-armed nutter bouncers, you get a hint that you are most probably entering dangerous territory. (When I say nutter, actually just look at the nick of that trim. What the actual fook??)
Anyways, expected flying chairs, blue wkd's on promo and steaming aunts doing celine dion on the karaoke. Instead, what we got was kanken backpacks, responsible bartending plaques, and a not-insignificant sense of relief.
Don't get me wrong, I love to slum it from time to time, but on this occasion I really appreciated the cosy nooks, tasty pints and the absence of 80s classics on tinny speakers.
State bar did all the wee things right, making the pub the facilitator, the background, and letting the nonsense chatter take centre stage. Big win and will be back soon!
