Pub 51: 226 Gallowgate The gallowgate kinda fries my brain a bit as it's now just so hard to tell what's gentrified and what isn't. The markets are 50/50 split between the posh (gourmet street food), and the rough (questionable military memorabilia). And, ultimately, the pubs follow the same path. B

The gallowgate kinda fries my brain a bit as it's now just so hard to tell what's gentrified and what isn't. The markets are 50/50 split between the posh (gourmet street food), and the rough (questionable military memorabilia).

And, ultimately, the pubs follow the same path. BAaD charges £6 for a cruzcampo, but is about 50 feet from the squirrel bar, which I'm scared of, and who probably pay you to drink their beer.

Hence, when we got into 226, my head was kinda swirling over what the vibe was. It's genuinely rustic, but in a way that looks more like a film-set than an actual dilapidated building. I was expecting a pint to be at the wrong side of £5. Then, finding out it was £3.70ish was the most honest pleasant surprise I've had in ages. Got to play cards at the table and everything. A good, good pub 🥹. The police presence outside was a reminder what the gallowgate actually still is lol.
