Pub 113: The Stand
Oh, how I desperately wanted to rate the original stand as a pub but, as a victim of my own rules on what constitutes a boozer, I could not. The old venue was genuinely the best drinking establishment in Glasgow. The flickering candlelight, toy-story colour scheme, and an amazing ability to accommodate any mood - from raucous pint-swigging sessions, all the way through to the bitter tears of closing night. Unfortunately, the only thing it couldn't accommodate was people in wheelchairs 💀 so it had to shut.
The new venue, inside my favourite church in Glasgow - the lansdowne parish, the site of the infamous poor things wedding - is just a minute from the old one. I've chucked packets of scampi fries further. And the biggest win is that you can now swing in for a pint without a ticket. An absolutely massive win for the bevvying population of the west end.
And while it'll never have the same magic as the original, they've done a wonderful job of the place and I'm sure it will only get better and better.
