Pub 95: Shilling Brewing Co.
I'll start off by making it clear that I like this pub. It's important for context. But I don't like the fact that it exists where it does.
I only found out last week that back in the 2010s, and for years before, this building was glasgow's very own frankenstein theme pub. I've never seen the old interior but having been to the one in edinburgh, the idea is pretty simple. 8ft tall monster figurines, bartenders in crazy dress-up, random flashes of lighting bolts, and green cocktails with names like frankie's piss (maybe idk).
Did Glasgow decide it was too mature for something like that? If so, I hope we take a long look in the mirror and think about what we've done, and who we think we are.
No doubt, Shilling have done a great job with the place and the combo of machine gun lager and a black pudding pizza is world beating. But in a world of gastros and micro brews, I'd quite happily sit for a few hours sinking pints in a booth made to look like a vampires lair.
